Meet the director

Minnesota native Andrew LaFave joined the staff of Basic High School in August of 2007.  Since beginning his study of music in 1989, Mr. LaFave has rigorously pursued artistic and expressive perfection in performance as well as in the classroom.  In 2003, Mr. LaFave developed an urban songwriting curriculum for the McNally-Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN where he was an instructor with the Music Business Department.  Since moving to Las Vegas in 2005, Mr. LaFave has worked with ensembles all across the valley, from Kay Carl Elementary school in the Northwest to Silverado High School in the Southeast.

 

Mr. LaFave earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music History and Literature from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where he studied conducting with the Mozarteum-Award Winning conductor of the St. Olaf Orchestra, Steven Amundson.  Currently, Mr. LaFave is working towards a Master of Education degree at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he has taken part in research relating to technology accessibility issues for students with special needs as well as building more effective teacher resource databases for the Clark County Schools.
