Nevada High School Proficiency Exam (NHSPE)
Science Information
Starting with the class of 2010, all students in the state of Nevada will be required to pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Exam (NHSPE) in Science in order to earn a high school diploma. This is in addition to the mathematics, reading, and writing NHSPE requirement currently in place. CCSD has been busy preparing students for this exam by ensuring that all science curricula K - 12 is aligned to state standards and CCSD power standards. In addition, about 75% of current 9th grade students in CCSD are enrolled in a course called Principles of Science specifically designed to cover many of the concepts and content needed to pass the NHSPE in Science. There is also a website provided through the Regional Profession Development Program (RPDP) called TIPS which can be accessed to give content reviews and sample test questions; it can be accessed at http://www.rpdp.net/. Future plans include development of a science proficiency tutoring program, construction of practice science proficiency exams, and development of a new course for non-proficient seniors. Current students in the class of 2010 will be taking the NHSPE in Science in the spring of 2008.
