FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Who is eligible to ride the school bus?
    1. Transportation is available for students who reside two miles or more from their zoned school according to the guidelines in Clark County School District Regulation 3531, Student Transportation Guidelines, which can be accessed at:  http://ccsd.net/directory/pol-reg/pdf/3531R.pdf
  2. How can I register my student(s) for Clark County School District bus transportation?
    1. Registering for transportation is easy.  When you register your student for school, you will complete a Clark County School District Registration Form.  Just check the appropriate line in the Transportation Requested For box at the bottom of the form.  Please keep in mind that requesting transportation does not mean your student is automatically eligible for transportation.  Eligibility will be verified by the Transportation Department.  Students who are eligible will be assigned a bus stop and receive an email (if an email address is provided) or a letter with their transportation information.  Non-eligible students will also receive an email or letter explaining their status.  In addition, student transportation eligibility and bus stop information are available online at:  http://www.ccsd.net/schools/transportation
    2. Please note:  If you do not require bus transportation for your student, it isn’t necessary to complete the Transportation Requested For box at the bottom of the Registration Form.

If your student is currently enrolled in Clark County School District and you have moved, changed schools, and/or need transportation, please complete a Student Information Update form available at your student’s school.

    3. If your student is enrolled in self-contained special education classes and requires transportation, please contact their case manager.  The Special Education Instructor-Facilitator (SEIF) at your student’s school will assist you in this process.
    4. If your student has medical transportation needs, please contact the school nurse to process the necessary documentation.
    5. If your student is attending a behavior or continuation school, the school will complete the form required for requesting transportation.
  3. How can I determine my student(s) bus stop location(s) and arrival time(s)?
    1. Once you complete the Clark County School District Registration Form and check the appropriate line in the Transportation Requested For box at the bottom of the form, the information is sent to the Transportation Department for verification of eligibility.  Students who are eligible for bus transportation will be assigned a bus stop and receive an email (if an email address is provided) or a letter with their transportation information.  In addition, student transportation eligibility and bus stop information are available online at: http://www.ccsd.net/schools/transportation or by calling a transportation representative at 799-8111.
  4. How is the distance between a school and a students’ residence measured to determine student eligibility for transportation?
    1. The distance is measured using a computerized software program the Transportation Department utilizes to route and schedule buses.  However, if a parent disputes the distance, a verification check can be requested by calling the Transportation Department at 799-8111.
  5. What is Space Available seating?
    1. Space available seating includes available seats on buses that have not been occupied by eligible students and can be assigned to non-eligible students.
    2. To be considered for Space Available seating, please contact the Transportation Department at 799-8111 for a Space Available Request form.  Please keep in mind:
      1. Students must apply for Space Available seating each school year.
      2. Students living the farthest from the school will receive first priority.
      3. Space Available seating is reviewed and assigned after October 1 of each school year.
  6. Can my child ride home with another student?
    1. Students can only ride the bus they are assigned to and must depart the bus at their assigned stop.

    2. Secondary magnet schools have a hub system for after school activities.
    3. High schools students who have an approved zone option receive after school transportation to those option areas.
